It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 14th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship, which will once again see 20 teams compete for the opportunity to be crowned World Champions in their age category.
The tournament is an important platform for young players to develop their game against the crème-de-la-crème of the sport in this age group. This is where young champions are made and the stars of tomorrow are given the opportunity to take their place in the spotlight.
Peru are veterans at hosting age group championships having held the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championships in 1989 and 2011. I have every confidence that the organisers will make this an event to remember by ensuring only the best facilities and conditions are available to the players.
From experience, these young players have never failed to impress with their talent, skill and dedication. The physical and mental challenges they encounter will stand them in good stead for the future, especially for the players who will eventually make the leap to senior level competition. For many, playing in Peru this year will be an unforgettable event which will give them an opportunity to forge relationships with players from other cultures and to learn lessons for life.
The game of volleyball is changing all the time and we look to the young players to help us grow the sport by inspiring others in their generation. I have no doubt that the Championship in Peru will also provide us with some surprises and I look forward to watching some high-level sport from some of our greatest young players.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish each and every participant only the best. It is important to remember that your passion, dedication and commitment are absolutely essential to the future health of volleyball and for this reason I am proud to call you the stars of our future.
