Callao, Peru, August 15, 2015 – Argentina will play for ninth place of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship following their 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-21, 15-11) victory over Belgium at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao on Saturday.
Argentina held the advantage in blocks 12-9 with Candelaria Herrera leading the way with 5 and took the win despite giving away 31 points via unforced errors.
Agostina Soria was the best offensive player for the winners with 16 points, including 14 attacks and 2 aces. Anahi Tosi and Maria Corbalan contributed with 14 and 12 respectively in the victory. On the other hand, Britt Herbots was the top scorer of Belgium and the match with 20 points.
Argentina was near to close the first set (22-20), however Belgium´s Britt Herbots had a great performance in attack and closed the first set 25-22.
Avoiding committing unforced errors, the South Americans lead the score of the second set at all time (8-6, 16-15) and finally won the set by a comfortable 25-18.
The definition of the third set was dramatic, Belgium led the score at the start (8-4) and then Argentina controlled (16-15). Belgium showed more stability in the most important moments and won 27-25.
The fourth set had intense moments, and despite the two red cards received by the coach of Argentina Mauro Silvestre, his squad won the set by 25-21, thanks to a strong attack of Anahi Tosi.
Argentina had the advantage 11-5, but in an extraordinary sequence Belgium tied at 11. The South Americans were more consistent and closed the match winning the fifth set 15-11.
