Belgium outplay hosts Peru

 

Belgium's Britt Herbots scored 18 points against hosts Peru

Lima, Peru, August 14, 2015 – Belgium defeated Peru 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12) in a qualification match for the 9-to-16 positions at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Friday night.

Britt Herbots led Belgium with 18 points, including three blocks and one ace, while Lauren Flament added 11 and Silke Van Avermaet and Hanne Coppens each contributed 10 points in the victory. Nicole Abreu had 10 points for Peru.

Belgium led in blocks 12-3 and held a slight 7-6 margin in aces. The winners also dominated in attacks 49-40.

Belgium took command halfway the first set leading 16-14 at the second stop and widening the margin to 19-15 with a strong spike by Van Den Vorder. Belgium won 25-20.

Two consecutive aces by Coppens gave Belgium a comfortable 13-4 lead in the second set. The European side went on to claim the set 25-15.

Peru led 8-7 in the third set and improved to 10-7 with the spike of Leyva and the ace by Abreu.  The home side was in front 16-11 but Belgium tied at 21-all via spike by Van Den Vorder.  Finally, Peru took the third set 25-23 with spikes by Palza and Abreu.

Belgium took big leads of 8-2 and 16-6 in the fourth set and closed its 25-12.
