Belgium overcomes Argentina in three-set thriller

Callao, Peru, August 8, 2015 – Belgium edged Argentina in three-set thriller (29-27, 25-22, 20-20) in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Saturday at Miguel Grau Coliseum.

Belgium held an overwhelming advantage of 42-32 in attacks and both teams obtained 9 blocks and 3 aces.

Britt Herbots, opposite of Belgium, was the only player in her team who reach double digits in the scores with 23 points and was the best scorer. Argentina´s Maria Corbalan and Agnes Michel scored 12 and 11 respectively. The match between the ‘Yellows Tigers’ of Belgium and ‘The Panthers’ of Argentina was thriller. In the first set both teams alternated in the top of the score any time, Belgium was superior in attack but made many mistakes in reception. Argentina had two set points , but Britt Herbots, with powerful second line attacks changed history ended 29-27 for the Europeans.

Supported by a large group of fans and with best blocking time, Argentina took command of the second set 18-13. Fien Callens, coach of Belgium, changed her squad and with the entry of the setter Lotte From, they corrected the mistakes and won the second set 25-22.

Argentina searched keep fighting but made many mistakes after the second technical time out and lost the third set 20-25.
