Players of China Team celebrate after winning the bronze medal against Turkey

Lima, Peru, August 16, 2015 – China defeated Turkey 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 29-27) in the match for the bronze medal at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Sunday at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima.

Wu Han, Li Yingying and Qian Jingwen were the major offensive contributors in the victory with 17, 15 and 14 points, respectively. Turkey’s Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc led all the players in the match with 20 points while Zehra Gunes had 12 in the loss.

Turkey led in blocks (13-8) and held a slight 8-7 advantage in aces but gave away 24 points via errors to only 13 by China.

China, a four-time champions in the age-group competition, now has six medals in total with one silver and one bronze.

China trailed for the most part of first set before tying the score at 21-all with the spike by Li. They took a two-point lead 23-21 with consecutive spikes by Wu  and closed at 25-23 when Zhang Yuqian blocked Yasemin Ozel.

In the second set, Li broke a tied score at 20-all with a terrific spike followed by explosive bombs by Qian and Wu. China won 25-21 with the block by Qian against Ozel.

In the third set, China allowed Turkey to tie at 23-all but finally won 29-27 with two consecutive aces by their captain Qian.
