China outplay Egypt to move to quarterfinals

 

China's Qian Jingwen was among the top offensive players in the victory over Egypt

Lima, Peru, August 13, 2015 – Defending champions China advanced to the quarterfinals at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship with a 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17) victory over Egypt at Eduardo Dibós Coliseum of Lima on Thursday.

China’s Li Yingying, Wu Han and Qian Jingwen collected 19, 17 and 16 points, respectively, in the victory. Egypt’s Mariam Morsy had a match-high 20 points and Nada Meawad added 17 in the losing cause.

China led in attacks 56-48 and scored 23 points from opponent’s errors. The Chinese outblocked the Egyptians 12-6.

Blocking of China was the key in the first set.  The Asian led 16-10 at the second technical time-out and took it when Egyptian Morsy sent her spike out of bounds.

Egypt was in front 8-4 and 16-15 in the second set with Morsy and Meawad as the main attackers Egypt won 25-21 benefitting from a failed serve by Li Yingying.

China team regained composure and dominated the third set 25-14 behind the massive spikes of Li Yingying.

China continued on the same path in the fourth set and closed the fourth set at 25-17.
