Cuba and Dominican Republic undefeated at U18 Pan Am Cup

Havana, Cuba, March 18, 2015 - Hosts Cuba and the Dominican Republic are undefeated after day two of the third U18 Girls’ Volleyball Pan American Cup, which is taking place in the Cuban capital of Havana. The Pool B winners will claim a berth at the FIVB Girls' U18 World Championship in Peru from August 7-16.

Cuba moved to just one game of qualifying for the U18 World Championship in Peru following a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-13) victory over Chile. In the Pool B match, the Cubans (win-loss ratio 2-0) held a 9-3 advantage in blocks and dominated attacks 41-16 with Diaris Perez and Heidy Casanova leading the offense with 14 points apiece.

The Dominicans (2-0) lead Pool A, which consists of four teams already qualified for the World Championship, downing Peru in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-14) with a 16-point performance by Massiel Matos. Natalia Martinez contributed 11 points in the victory, including five aces, while Vielka Peralta added nine.

In the other match in Pool A, Argentina (1-1) defeated Mexico (0-2) in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-18).Anahi Tosi topped the winners with 12 points, followed by Maria Corbalan and Flamma Blain with 9 and 8 points respectively.

In Pool B, Puerto Rico (1-1) beat Costa Rica (0-2) in consecutive sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-14). The winners held a 10-4 advantage in the service category with Valeria Santos leading the way with four aces.
