Egypt survive in long battle with Mexico

 

Egypt's Nada Meawad had 22 points in the victory over Mexico

Lima, Peru, August 11, 2015 – Egypt prevailed in a five-set duel with Mexico 3-2 (28-26, 24-26, 17-25, 26-24, 17-15) to finish with a 2-2 record in Pool A at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

Nada Meawad and Marian Morsy led Egypt with 22 and 21 points, respectively, while Karla Mireles and Kathya Garcia finished with 21 and 17 points for Mexico.

Egypt won the long match despite committing 41 errors against 22 by Mexico. Both teams scored with 12 aces and Egypt held a slight margin in blocks 12-10. The winners had 64 positive spikes to 53 by the defeated side.

Mexico erased a 16-10 deficit and took the lead 23-21 with three consecutive aces by Karla Mireles but Egypt came back to take the set 28-26 with the spike of Morsy and ace by Amin.

In the second set, Egypt came from behind to tie at 22-all with the ace by Moawad only to see Mexico taking the set 26-24 with spike by Chavez and the ace by Flores.

Mexico completely dominated the third set that concluded 25-17.

Egypt won the fourth set battle 26-24 with Morsy scoring with a quick attack and the spike by Mexican Flores sailing out of bounds.

Egypt won the thrilling tie-breaker 17-15 when Morsy blocked Mireles.
