Germany cruise to 3-0 win over Mexico

Germany's Vanessa Agbortabi spikes for one of her 12 points in the victory

Lima, Peru, August 13, 2015 – Germany stopped Mexico 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-22) advancing to the final eight round at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Thursday at Eduardo Dibós Coliseum of Lima.

Despite the fighting spirit of Mexico, Germany controlled the match and the Europeans were clearly the superior team in this contest.

Hanna Orthmann led Germany with 15 points, including three aces, followed by Vanessa Agbortabi and Sindy Lenz with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Gabriela Perez was the only Mexican with double figures in the scoring charts with 10 points. Kathya Garcia was next with 9 points in the loss.

Germany outscored Mexico 5-0 in the blocking category and 10-4 in the aces department.

Germany recovered from a slow start to take the first set 25-19 behind the attack and serve by Lenz.

The second set was very close with the score tied at 18-18 but the Mexican team slowed down and hut themselves with some costly mistakes. Germany won 25-21.

It was a lopsided third set with Germany in front 16-9 at the second technical time-out before closing it at 25-21 despite some late surge from Mexico.
