Italy scores comfortable victory over Cuba

 

Callao, Peru, August 9, 2015 – Italy scored an easy victory over Cuba 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-18) in the second match of the day in Pool D of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau on Sunday.

The team captained by Vittoria Piani looked solid outclassing the Cuban side in every aspect of the game with advantages in attacks (26-22), blocking (11-5) and serving aces (11-3). Paola Egonu was the top scorer of the winners with 11 points, including 7 attacks.

For Cuba, setter Dalia Palma was the top scorers with 6 points in the losing effort. Based on the performance of setter Alessia Orro and wing spiker Paola Egonu Italy team was able to structure a complex style that Cuba could not figure out; the first set was easy for the Europeans and finish 25-9.

Despite Italy’s decreased the pressure they put into the first set, Cuba continued making many unforced errors and they could not take advantage of the opponent descontration. Italy without showing their best game won the second and third set by 25-15 and 25-18 respectively.
