Peru outblock Mexico in thrilling five-setter

Peru totaled 17 blocks in the victory over Mexico on Saturday night

Lima, Peru, August 8, 2015 – Peru registered 17 blocks in the five-set victory over Mexico with Diana de la Peña leading the way with six of her own.

Walter Lung, coach of Peru: We knew Mexico was a tough opponent due to the experience we had at the Pan American Cup. Our team was able to win because the girls have a lot of desire to continue moving forward.

Nicole Abreu, player of Peru: We knew the match was not going to be easy because the contests with Mexico are five-setters most of the time. They have a good team but with hard work and concentration we were able to solve the crucial moments.

Ricardo Naranjo, coach of Mexico: Congrats to Peruvian team, especially coach Lung who has been able to detect the problems they had when we faced each other at the Pan American Cup. I think their team work and hard work were the keys. They are on the right track.

Karina Flores, captain of Mexico: It was a close contest. Peru is a great team with a lot of international experience, more than us. They took advantage of that factor and of the injury of our opposite player.
