Russia rolls past Belgium in three sets

Callao, Peru, August 9, 2015 – Russia rolled past Belgium in straight set 3-0 (25-17,25-23, 25-19) to claim second win in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau on Sunday.

Angelina Emelina was the best Russian scorer with 12points, followed by Ksenia Smirnova and Maria Vorobyeva with 10 points each one. Belgium´s Silke Van Avermaet had 11 points in the losing effort. Russia led in attacks 34-28 and 10-6 in blocks.

The winners made 22 unforced errors to 27 by the losers. Russia found the way to control Belgium´s and tournament’s top scorer Brit Herbots, and using powerful attacks overcomed the effort made by their opponents and won the first set 25-17.

Belgium got into the game a bit more focused for the second set and they controlled the game during some moments, however Russia took 5 points in advantage and managed to keep them until the set point (24-19) Belgium recovered 4 points in a row but finally Russia closed the set 25 – 23.

Russia´s wing spikers Angelina Emelina and Maria Vorobyeva took the control of the final set and with an apparently unfocused Belgium’s team, the game finished 25-19.Russia won 3 – 0, after a tight match.
