‘This match was a great lesson for our players’– Marco Mencarelli

Callao, Peru, August 11, 2015 – USA overcame Belgium to remain undefeated and has a 4-0 record in Pool D of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau.

Vittoria Piani, captain of Italy: The beginning the match was complicated, especially because we were playing against a team with a good defence. After that, we had the enough power to win this difficult match.

Manami Mandai, captain of Japan: Since the beginning we would have wanted to get in the game with all of us. Now, we have to play with more intensity each point, each set and each game. We know since now every point counts.

Marco Mencarelli, coach of Italy: Playing against Japan is always difficult, we have a different style and they are a team with an incredible defence. This match was a great lesson for our players and it will pay off to get better in some parts that aren’t working yet in the collective play.

Daichi Saegusa, coach of Japan: Italy is a complete team, they attack, block, defense and have a great serve, that’s the reason why took us a lot of effort trying to pass over them. We don’t have an attack as they, but we could have done more.
