USA beat Brazil and moves to quarterfinals

 

Callao, Peru, August 13, 2015 – USA advanced to the quarterfinals at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship with a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15) victory over Brazil at Miguel Grau of Callao on Thursday.

The Americans topped their opponents in attacks (50-44) and blocks (13-7).

Brazil committed 28 unforced errors seven more than the winners. Khalia Lanier led USA with 18 points seconded by Kathrym Pulmmer, Ronika Stone and Alexis Sun with 13 points each one.  Brazilian Ana Rodriguez finished with 16 points, while Beatriz Carvalho added 12.

One more time, USA´s wing spiker Khalia Lanier had impressive start and led her team to win the first set 25-19. Brazil took the initiative in the second set, with a strong performance of Nyeme Alexander and Beatriz Carvalho won 25-21.

Both teams used their alternative setters since the start of the third set. Madison Lilley provided greater stability to her team and The Americans won the set 25-20.

Brazil sought other alternatives for the third  set but could not find them. An explosive attack of USA´s Kathryn Plummer in the middle closed the set 25-15.
