Argentina claims first victory in Pool C

 

Celebration of Argentina against Dominican Republic

Callao, Peru, August 10, 2015 – Argentina claimed its first triumph by subduing Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 19-25, 25-23) in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau Coliseum on Monday. It was the third defeat for Dominican Republic.
Maria Corbalan was the best scorer for Argentina with 18 points followed by Agostina Soria with 12 points marked. For Dominican Republic, Massiel Matos stood out as the best scorer of her team with 21 tallies.
Argentina had the top hand in attacks 47-43, 9-6 in blocks and 7-4 in serves. The winners made 23 errors and Dominic Republic 31.
Based on technical serve and a quick game, the ´Little Panthers´ dominated from the start. With powerful attack by the sides caused many difficulties to the anxious Dominican Republic team and closed the first and second set by 25-17 and 25-11, respectively.
Dominican Republic took the initial control of the third set and lead 5-1 and with a great work of Massiel Matos in attack resisted the argentines effort to close the set 25-19.
Argentina had the advantage in the fourth set 12-8, but Dominican Republic changed their attitude and was in advantage in the second technical time out 16-14. Valentina Gonzalez, Argentina´s libero, talked constantly with her teammates to calm their squad, who closed a dramatic final set 25-23.
With this result Argentina is still alive in the tournament and must to wait tomorrow´s results to qualify for the next round.
