Brazil wins Pan American contest with Cuba

 

Callao, Peru, August 11, 2015 .Brazil defeated Cuba in straight sets (25-15,25-8, 25-17) in a battle that pitted American teams in day five in the Pool D at FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau on Tuesday. The Brazilian finished the round-robin phase with a 2-2 win-loss record.
Beatriz Carvalho was the top scorer for the winners with 10 points, followed by Diana Duarte with 9. For Cuba Diaris Perez and Kitania Medina finished with 9 each one in the loss.
The winners established their pace during the whole match and held the advantages in attacks (32-28), blocks (6-4) and aces (9-2).
Despite their strong blocks Cuba made at the beginning of the match, Brazil dominated easily the first and second set by 25-15 and 25-8 respectively.
The final set was the tightest, Cuba´s captain Diaris Perez began guiding her squad with deadly spikes from the front and the back of the court, however the dig of Brazilian Nyeme Alexander was on point and with the attacks of opposite power player Beatriz Carvalho Brazil finished it 25-17.
