China, USA, Italy and Turkey are the semifinalists at Girls’ U18

 

Chinese players enjoyed the match against Russia

Lima and Callao, Peru, August 14, 2015 – Defending champions China will be pitted against vice champions United States in one of the semifinals at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Saturday.

The other match in the semifinals features Italy against Turkey, with both contests taking place at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima.

China dominated Russia and United States trounced Germany in straight sets while Italy downed Serbia in four sets in Lima. Turkey cruised to a straight-set victory over Poland in Callao.

China blanked Russia 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) in just 70 minutes with the tandem of Li Yingying and Wu Han contributing a total of 30 points, with 15 apiece.

Kathryn Plummer scored 16 points as United States dispatched Germany 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-20) with advantages of 10-3 and 12-3 in the blocking and aces departments.

Paola Egonu fired 28 points, including five blocks and two aces, to lead Italy to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17) over Serbia.

In the other quarterfinal match, Turkey demolished Poland in straight sets 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-16) with a balanced attack led by Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc with 14 points.

In the matches for the 9-to-16 positions, Japan subdued Egypt 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-14) and Argentina beat Korea also 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21). Brazil defeated Mexico 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 25-18) and Belgium downed Peru 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12).

Dominican Republic beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) and Thailand defeated Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 25-11, 20-25, 25-20) in the round-robin for the 17-to-20 positions.
