Dominican Republic claims first victory

 

Callao, Peru, August 13, 2015 – Dominican Republic beat Cuba 3-1 (23-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20) and obtained their first victory in the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau Coliseum on Thursday.
Dominican Republic had the edge in spikes 44-37 and in aces 11-6. The winners made 26 errors, 5 less than Cuba.
Massiel Matos topped the scorers of the winning team with 32 points, followed by Vielka Peralta with 9 in the winning effort. Kitania Medina was best scorer for Cuba with 11 points while Liset Herrera finished with 10 in the losing team.
Cuba´s captain Diaris Perez had an amazing beginning, led her squad and took the control of the set 25-23.
Second set was tighter, Dominican Republic put all the pressure with tactical services but Cuba controlled the net with strong blocks. However, Dominican opposite spiker Massiel Matos was unstoppable and Dominican Republic closed the second and the third set by a double 25-18.
Despite the powerful attacks of Cuba´s Kitania Medina the final set was dominated by Dominican Republic 25-20.
