Five teams remain undefeated at Girls’ U18 in Peru

 

Over 6,000 spectators watched the match between hosts Peru and Korea at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Sunday night

Lima and Callao, Peru, August 9, 2015 - Defending champions China and Germany in Pool B, United States and Russia in Pool C and Italy in Pool D remain undefeated with 2-0 win-loss record at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

In Monday’s actions, China and Germany clash at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum in Lima, while United States meet Russia at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao with both matches scheduled at 10:00 (local time). Italy take on Brazil at 16:00 in Callao.

Sunday’s volleyball festival closed dramatically with Korea prevailing in a nail-biting five-set duel with hosts Peru watched by over 6,000 spectators in Lima. The Asian side won 3-2 (14-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14) in its third five-setter in as many days.

Peruvian Katherine Regalado matched the tournament-high 25 points but it was Korean Ko Minji who had the last laugh with 17 points including the one to seal the victory.

Also in Lima, Wu Han and Li Yinying combined 24 and 19 points to lead the victory of reigning champions China 3-1 (28-26, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16) victory over Thailand, while Hanna Orthmann scored 20 points to spearhead the attack in Germany’s win over Poland 3-1 (25-11, 25-12, 20-25, 25-16).

The duo of Mariam Morsy and Nada Meawad each collected 20 points to carry Egypt to a 3-1 (25-22, 18, 25, 25-21, 25-20) victory over Chinese Taipei.

In Callao, current vice champions United States blanked Argentina 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) with a balanced attack led by Alexis Dawn Sun and Kathryn Plummer with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Russia snapped Belgium’s two-game winning streak with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) win, while 
Turkey downed Brazil 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22). In the last match of Sunday, Italy crushed Cuba 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-18).
