Italy overpowers Turkey

 

Callao, Peru, August 7, 2015 – Italia claimed a straight-set victory 3-0 (25-14, 25-18,25-18 ) over Turkey in the second match of Pool D at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship on Friday at Miguel Grau Coliseum.

Italy was the superior team in attacks (28-19), blocking (12-3), serving ace (10-5) and also made lesser errors with 23 compared to 25 by the turkish team The top scorer of the match was Italian Paola Egonu with 19 points, while for Turkey the best scorer was Saliha Sahin with 9 points. An intense battle occurred in the beginning of the match, though the nerves did not allow Turkey to keep close in the score, Paola Eguno led the Italian attack to close the first set for her squad by 25-14.

The second set was even until the first technical timeout, then a series of aggressive Italian services allowed for the team led by Marco Mencarelli to get the advantage. Saliha Sahin of Turkey tried to control the Italian powerfull spikes but their effort was not enough, Italy won the second set by 25-18.

In the beginning of the third set Italy dominated the net with an impressive work of Paola Egonu in attack and Alessia Mazzaro on block to win the set by 25-18 again.
