Local media pack official launch of Girls’ U18 World Championship

Lima, Peru, July 22, 2015 - A press conference was held in Lima, Peru to launch the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship. The competition will take place in the cities of Lima and Callao from August 7-16 with the participation of 20 of the best teams in the world.

It is the first time that Peru will organize an FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship, but it will be the fourth time that a FIVB World Championship is hosted in the country after the Women’s World Championship in 1982, and the Women's U20 World Championships in 1989 and 2011.

"Every year our organization works with the utmost effort to obtain new successes for our country. And it is our love for volleyball which commits us to organize high profile events such as the World Women's Under 18. We can ensure that the tournament organizers will exceed the expectations of all visitors," said Peruvian Volleyball Federation President Luis Linares.

Peruvian captain Lucia Magallanes said: "We have been working intensively with the aim of giving new joys to our country. We just returned from a preparation tour in Europe and Asia where we played several games against strong teams. We know it will not be an easy tournament and so we expect the support of all the fans.”

The press conference held at the Los Delfines Hotel in Lima was also attended by Claudio Ortiz, Manager of Hyundai, Congresswoman and former captain of the Peruvian volleyball team Leyla Chihuan and Gustavo Barnechea, Latina channel Sports Manager.
