Pool phase at Girls’ U18 with European flavour

 

Russia play Dominican Republic on Tuesday

Lima and Callao, Peru, August 10, 2015 – Three European sides are sitting atop their respective pools with one more day to go in the preliminary phase of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship taking place at Lima and Callao.

European champions Russia, Germany and Italy all have 3-0 win-loss records and are on the verge of finishing as pool winners and top seeded teams in the next round of the competition following day four of the event.

Russia outplayed the United States in five sets 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10) in Pool C while Italy blanked Brazil 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) to maintain possession of first place in Pool D. Meanwhile, Germany outplayed China in four sets 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) in Pool B.

In Tuesday’s action, Russia take on winless Dominican Republic (0-3), Italy play Japan (2-1) and Germany meet Poland (1-2).

In Pool A, Korea defeated Egypt 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-17) to finish with a 3-1 record and 8 points in Pool A. Hosts Peru are currently in second place with 2-1 and 6 points and close the preliminary phase against Chinese Taipei (1-2).

In the rest of the matches on Monday, Serbia cruised past Thailand in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-21), Mexico beat Chinese Taipei 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16), Argentina defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 19-25, 25-23) and Japan overcame Turkey 3-1 (16-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-20).
