Russia lead the way among winners of Day One in Peru

 

Russia scored a cruising victory over Argentina on Friday

Lima and Callao, Peru, August 7, 2015 – European champions Russia scored a comfortable straight-set 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-17) victory over Argentina in Pool C at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 Word Championship on Friday.

The Russian strong hitters proved to be too much for the South American side with Angelina Lazarenko leading the way with 12 points in the victory at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Callao.

Also in Pool C at Callao, Belgium defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19) with Britt Herbots scoring 22 points to lead the winners and Massiel Matos producing 20 in the losing effort.

The longest battle of day one took place at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima with Korea overcoming Mexico 3-2 (17-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13) in Pool A with Yoo Seoyeun spearheading the offense with 19 points.

Egyptians Mariam Morsy and Nada Meawad scored 25 and 22 points, respectively, but could not avoid the loss to hosts Peru in Pool A 3-1 (27-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23). Katherine Regalado and Leslie Leyva charted 17 and 14 points in the triumph.

In a Pool B battle between European sides, Serbia blanked Poland 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-23) with Anastasia Sekulic and Ana Asonja contributing 12 points apiece in the success. In the same group, 
Germany outclassed Thailand 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-18) with a 16-4 difference in the blocking division.

In Pool D, Japan overcame Cuba 3-0 (29-27, 25-16, 25-17) and Italy outscored Turkey 12-3 in blocks, 10-5 in aces and 28-19 in spikes cruising to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18) victory led by Paola Egonu with 19 points.
