Turkey beat Belgium and advanced to quarterfinals

 

Callao, Peru, August 13, 2015 – Turkey defeated Belgium 3-1 (25-21, 23-25,25-15, 25-21) to gain a quarterfinals berth at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Miguel Grau of Callao on Thursday.

Turkey held the advantages in attacks (46-45) blocks (9-5) and also in aces (9-5). The winners committed 34 unforced errors, seven more than Belgium.

Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc led the winners with 23 points, including 18 attacks and 5 blocks, followed by Saliha Sahin and Melis Kara with 10 each one.

Britt Herborts had 21 points for Belgium and Silke Van Avermaet had 10 in the loss. Turkish opposite, Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc was in charge of leading the attack of her team that won the initial set by 25-21.

Belgium´s Britt Herbots was unstoppable and with explosives attacks led her squad to close the second set 25-23.

Turkey quickly took control of the third set 8-5 and 16-7. Taking advantage of the mistakes of their opponents comfortably won the set 25- 15. Turkish led the fourth set 8-2 but Belgium made a comeback 15-16 at the second technical time.
