United States advance to title match

 

Alexis Dawn Sun led USA to victory over China in the semifinals

Lima, Peru, August 15, 2015 – United States defeated defending champions China 3-1 (25-18, 25-13, 27-29, 25-18) advancing to the title match at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

Alexis Dawn Sun was the offensive leader for USA with 23 points, including five aces and one block, while  Ronika Stone played also a key role with six blocks among her 16 points. Kathryn Plummer and Rosika Stone contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the victory.

Li Yingying had a match-high 28 points in the losing cause while Qian Jingwen added 10 points.

United States held a wide difference in blocks (14-4) and aces (11-4) and also led in spikes (57-46). They scored on 20 errors by China while committing 24.

USA claim the first set 25-18 with solid spikes by Dawn Sun and Stone after leading 8-4 and 16-12 at the technical time outs.

Pittman and Stone contributed to an 8-3 USA lead. Dawn Sun and Stone combine their skills to carry USA to an overwhelming 25-13 gap at the end of the second set.

China erased a 17-11 deficit behind the effective serves of Wu Han to tie the score at 22-all. At 27-27, Li Yingying scored with her spike and blocked Plummer for the 29-27 to China.

Tied at 18-18 in the fourth set, USA scored seven points in a row, four by Dawn Sun, to win 25-18.
