Serbia dominated Thailand at the net with an overwehlming 11-1 difference in blocks
Lima, Peru, August 10, 2015 – Serbia cruised past Thailand in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-21) progressing to a 2-1 win-loss mark in Pool B at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima on Monday.
Thailand concluded winless at 0-4 in the preliminary round and will continue playing for the 17 to 20 positions.
In the lopsided contest, Serbia outscored Thailand 11-1 in blocks, 5-3 in aces and 34-23 in spikes. The winners made 24 errors, one less than the losers.
Ljubica Milojevic had five blocks among her team-leading 12 points and Katarina Lazovic was a close second with 11 tallies. Thailand’s Kanittha Juangjan finished with 11 points as the best scorer of the defeated squad.
Serbia cruised throughout the first set with commanding leads of 8-3 and 16-5 at the pauses before closing at 25-14.
The second set took the same route with the taller European side in front 8-4 and 16-8 before winning 25-16 with a subtle touch by Lazovic.
Thailand led 8-7 at the first technical time-out of the third set but Serbia returned to the top 16-14 at the second pause and went on to win 25-21.
